Got something broken or in need of a little TLC? Give it a second life by bringing it to Clean North’s third Repair Cafe, where local volunteers will help you repair it instead of sending it to the landfill. That matters now more than ever, with the Sault Ste. Marie landfill nearing capacity and expansion expected to cost tens of million of dollars. You’ll also pick up basic repair skills and connect with people who believe in making things last. 

This event will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location will be the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #25, 96 Great Northern Road (park in the rear). Admission is free, but donations to Clean North are welcome to help cover costs. Replacement parts or materials may involve a small charge. Volunteers will assess each item and do their best to help, but repairs aren’t guaranteed.

So what can you get help with? 

• Repairs of:
  • Clothing and other textiles—includes darning and mending; make sure items are clean; for zipper repairs, remove old zipper and bring a replacement
  • Leather items
  • Jewellery
  • Electrical items (toasters, lamps, etc.)
  • Small wood items
  • Bikes (minor repairs)
• Knife sharpening—max 2 per person; no scissors or garden tools
• Device diagnostics
• Houseplant repotting

So what can you get help with? 

In addition, to repair services, the Friends of the Library pop-up bookstore will be there with fabulous fiction and non-fiction books at low prices. 

We will also be collecting the following items for reuse and recycling:

• Shoes (gently used and clean)
• Egg cartons (no egg residue)
• Reusable shopping bags (clean)
• Lock City milk bags (clean, flattened)
• Eyeglasses
• Batteries
• Aluminum can tabs 
• Crayons
