Why see 2040?

With this film, Australian writer/director Damon Gameau envisions what life could be like for his young daughter two decades in the future. He starts by describing the sobering consequences of our current trajectory. But then most of the film focuses on innovations and initiatives that already exist and could help reverse ice cap melting and other damaging changes—so his daughter as well as all of our young ones have the chance at a happy and healthy future.

Damon helps us understand that the biggest risk in fighting climate change is hopelessness and helplessness. He showcases practical solutions, but more important, he helps people see that change is possible. He wants to help us engineer a different and healthier future through “fact-based dreaming” rather than browbeating people.
