Clean North is teaming up with the Ontario Ground Water Association and the Green Communities Association to bring two water well workshops to the area. We'll be at Laird Hall, Hwy 17 East and Pumpkin Point Road, on Wednesday June 22nd at 7 pm. Then the next day, at Prince Township Hall, Second Line West, June 23rd at 7 pm. If you have a drinking water well, please come and find out how to make sure it's not contaminated, and to prevent it ever becoming contaminated. If you have an old unused well on your property, it's important too, that it be decommissioned properly so that it doesn't cause contamination of the water supply. Make sure your well stays well!

There is a proposal for a vacation home subdivision to be built on 270 acres between the Devils' Washtub area and the village of Copper Harbor. An option is held by MJO construction to buy the property. The proposal would subdivide and build 100 vacation homes (with 65 being waterfront lots) on land being sold by the Lake Superior Land Company (a subsidiary of International Paper."

Tony DeFalco writes: "That's what will happen if the electric power industry gets it's way. Through the Utility Air Regulatory Group (UARG is an ad hoc group of electric utilities) industry has submitted a "petition of opposition" to EPA as well as initiating litigation attempting to overturn EPA's recent decision to regulate mercury and other toxic pollutants (like arsenic, cadmium, dioxin and radio nuclides). EPA's determination to regulate emissions would start the process of regulating mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants. As of now, no regulations exist for emissions of this toxic metal. Today, National Wildlife Federation and 42 conservation and environmental groups united to fight this attempt (see press release below)."
