Clean North Summer Sale!

from the help-wanted dept.

Clean North could use your help yet again.

We have been asked to help the family of Della Taylor, a longtime Clean North member, to clean out her house in preparation for its sale. Many of us remember volunteering with Della in past years, she's a delightful lady.

Della and her husband have moved to much smaller and less-demanding accommodation, and taken their treasures with them. They've left behind the accumulation of decades of living in one place, and their daughter, who lives in Toronto, has asked us to help.

So we're having a garage sale. Julia has offered Clean North the proceeds of the sale, as she does not want to spend her entire holidays sorting her parent's things, all on her own. There are bed linens, kitchen items, some functional furniture pieces (chests, shelving, tables, a twin bed), sewing items, costume jewelry, two lawnmowers, contents of a garden shed, and even a few treasures sprinkled throughout. Literally, "everything must go!"

It all needs sorting, some of it needs pricing, other items to be sold in "lots" or by-the-bag. We need Clean North's garage sale experts. You know who you are!

Please get back to me at kathie or leave a phone message at 949-3862, if you can help on any one of these three days. I'm extremely grateful for your time and expertise!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2007, Clean North readers! As a present for the new year, I have a brand-new layout for you. Not only that, but the code is improved, which fixes comments and has new anti-spam features. This should be huge and great! Sorry, I'm just really excited. The last layout we created in 2004, up to then we ran with the same layout from 1999. Now, with the release of Internet Explorer 7, I find that our 2004 layout did not render correctly in the new browser. Read on for the rest of the reasoning.

BOYD a Success

The trucks are gone. The floor is swept. Some of the supplies have been put away. Another successful Clean North event is over, except for the thank you letters. This time, for the first time, we needed that backup second truck. We shipped one full transport plus fourteen more pallets on a second truck. No wonder our backs ache!

The location in the old PUC building was ideal for truck loading, thank goodness, but much less than ideal for our sales table. Good working pentium systems went onto the recycling truck at the end of the day - lots of them. It broke our hearts. Not to mention it didn't do a lot of good for our budget.

Thanks to TransProvincial Freight for two (!) trucks, the PUC for a great big room, the city for helping with tables from the Gardens, and to all our wonderful volunteers.

BOYD 4.0 Is Cancelled

Sad to report, we've encountered a deal-breaker. We cannot park the truck in the parking lot behind the hall. This makes the location unworkable, and at this late date, finding a new location is not feasible. We're very sorry to disappoint. Please watch for a late-September event.

Canoe Auction

from the surplus-equipment dept.

Clean North bought a canoe, about seven or eight years ago, which we used to great benefit in our Inland Lakes projects. Remember those? Teams of youth canoed dock-to-dock for two summers, to bring information to lakeshore homeowners and cottagers about living with their lake and preventing water quality problems. They covered sixteen of the small lakes in the district. It was great! But now we don't need the canoe. See below for what we're going to do about it.

It was long-awaited, and now our newsletters are available online. Every equinox and solstice, a new one will go up, starting with the March issue. Older newsletters will be added as time goes on, but only new newsletters will be searchable.

Please Help Carpet the Office

from the strong-backs-wanted dept.

This coming weekend is the big carpeting project. We've been suffering with a threadbare, stained carpet in the Clean North office for quite a few years now. It's literally unravelling under our feet. But Don has obtained some really sturdy hotel carpeting that is clean and really nice. We began this task in the fall and did two segments, now it's time to finish the job. Can you help? Work schedule is below. Please email Kathie to join a work crew. Thanks!
