There are many ways to ensure that your unwanted goods have a second life. If you can't find a listing in our Three R's directory (or even if you can!), try these ideas:
- Garage Sale - hold your own, get together with neighbors and friends to do
one, or donate your things to one of the many charity garage sales
throughout the summer.
- Advertise - if it's under $100, or if you want to give it away, the ad in
the Sault Star is free. Call on Tuesday or Wednesday to place your ad.
- Scrounge Day - you don't have to wait for the organized Scrounge Day to give
away stuff. Put it out on your front lawn or driveway with a large FREE
sign, and it will disappear!
- Charities - if it's still useful stuff, your favorite charity might have a
use for it. Call and ask.
- Schools and Daycares - and other children's programs at churches and the Y,
often find use for creative fun castaways such as leftover yarn, toilet
paper rolls, berry baskets. Call first.
- Theater groups - can often use specialized clothing (such as uniforms),
leftover lumber, and usable paint in their set building and prop/costume
collections. Call the Arts Council at 945-9756 for contact info for groups
planning productions in the near future.
- Repair shops - call and see if they want your stuff for parts to work on the others that come in to their shop. This works best for broken, unrepairable small electrical appliances like mixers and can openers.
