This event is a good fit for Clean North, as many of the plants for sale are "recycled"—unwanted plants rescued by the society's Green Team or ones taken out of society members' overcrowded flower beds. Just some of the plants that will be available: daylilies, primroses, dwarf bleeding heart, globe allium, lungwort, and much more!

The sale will take place in the parking lot of Malabar Baptist Church on Saturday, May 25, from 9 am to noon. Farmers market vendors will also be there. A great event for the whole family!

Come learn the art of working with recycled materials. Clean North's composting with worms exhibit will be there as well!

The Art Gallery is looking for string, buttons, yarn, fabric, cardboard, coloured bristle board, cardboard tubes, bottle caps, CDs, plastic bread bag ties, milk cartons, yogurt containers and corks. In honour of Earth Day and the Art Gallery's current exhibit Men and Nature, the AGA will be showing a film about internationally renowned Canadian artist Edward Burtynsky. In this fascinating documentary Burtynsky’s large scale photographs of landscapes transformed by industry come to life. The National Film Board of Canada writes, “Shot in sumptuous super 16mm film, Manufactured Landscapes extends the narratives on human impact on the planet without trying to reach simplistic judgments or reductive resolutions. In the process, the film shifts our consciousness about the world and the way we live in it.”

Clean North presents…The Story of Stuff (plus panel discussion)

Do you know where all of your unwanted “stuff” goes? Saultites (on average) bury 1/2 ton of “stuff” per person per year at our landfill. Are you aware that our municipal landfill is expected to be full within 10 years? Did you know that less than 40% of your household waste is “recycled”? To help answer these questions Clean North and the SSM Public Library will be hosting a showing of the video “THE STORY OF STUFF” followed by a panel discussion.

Mason's idea of success was to be able to communicate through his films, books and paintings the intense feelings he had for his surroundings, and to somehow inspire others into sharing and adopting these thoughts and concerns. Passionate in his beliefs, always speaking from the heart, his films inspired many people to rededicate themselves to the enjoyment and conservation of Canada's wilderness and waterways. Through this celebration of film, the Waterwalker Film Festival and Sault College invite you to become part of Mason's ongoing legacy….Come enjoy the wide variety of films submitted by amateur and professional filmmakers. Festival organizers hope you will be encouraged to become more involved with the protection and conservation of our unique Canadian wilderness and waterways.

Come celebrate the St. Mary’s River!!

This year’s theme is Connecting Science to the Community. Participants will be looking at ways to enhance community engagement in environmental projects for residents of Sault Ste. Marie in both Michigan and Ontario.

There will be display tables featuring local businesses and environmental interest groups (including Clean North) to meet with the public — in addition to guest speakers giving short presentations to the public throughout the day.  There will also be an area for children to learn about science in our community using a variety of activity centers!  We encourage you to bring the whole family…there will be something for everyone!
