YOUR CHOICE OF FRIDAY EVENING OR SATURDAY MORNING BOATS!
To allow those from further afield the chance to join us for the weekend without taking travel time off work Friday afternoon, we've arranged with the camp staff at John Island for a second boat Saturday morning. First boat will leave around 7 Friday evening (exact departure time to be confirmed one week prior) and a second boat will leave at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. Saturday morning will be free time on the Island, with the meetings starting right after lunch Saturday. The Sunday boat back to the main land will leave late afternoon, instead of our previous departure time of 1 p.m., so we have an exta afternoon on the Island.
- What to bring:
- extra seeds, for the seventh annual seed exchange
- displays, posters and handouts about your group and environmental activities
- sleeping bags and towels, flashlights, solid footwear, and personal gear
- home-made edibles to share, like jams & syrups for breakfast or wine for the campfire
- friends, family and wee folks (the kids can caucus too!)
How to register
The weekend package includes a snack Friday night, three meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday, as well as accommodation and boat transportation Friday evening or Saturday morning and returning on Sunday afternoon. Registration fees are $60 per person for adults, $30 per person for kids. Lower rates may be available for families and limited income, on request.

About the spring meeting
Northwatch's Spring Meeting uses an "open space" method of developing the agenda, so everyone who attends is assured that their issues will be discussed, and can lead to action in the future. There's also room for play - music in the evenings, hikes in the early mornings and afternoons. With the natural quiet setting of John Island, we celebrate the earth and our work and play together
About John Island
John Island is an outdoor education centre on a rugged island in the North Channel of Lake Huron, a short boat ride from the Serpent River First Nation community of Cutler (or a slightly longer boat ride from the town of Spanish). John Island offers beauty and isolation, with a swimming area, recreational equipment, and walking trails, all in the scenic setting of the limestone and granite of the North Shore. Accommodation is in small group cabins, with nearby bathrooms complete with showers and hot and cold running water. Vegetarian meals will be served in the camp dining hall and childcare will be provided by camp counsellors - but kids must be registered one week in advance to allow adequate arrangements to be made.
About getting there
Transportation from the main land to the island will be provided from the dock at the end of Walkhouse Bay Road, on the Serpent River First Nation's reserve lands. Weather and road conditions make the docking decisions, so please check with the Northwatch office, in the week immediately before the meeting to confirm transporation arrangements. Camping is available near by for those arriving late Friday, and waiting over for the Saturday morning boat. Please note that notice of any changes in transport arrangements, such as a change of dock, will be on the Northwatch answering machine message (705 497 0373). Please call for any last-minute confirmations.
About Northwatch
Northwatch is a coalition of community based environmental groups in northeastern Ontario. Founded in 1988, Northwatch addresses regional issues - land use, forests, water, waste and energy - and works with local citizens groups addressing environmental concerns in their community.
