Canoe Auction

from the surplus-equipment dept.
Clean North bought a canoe, about seven or eight years ago, which we used to great benefit in our Inland Lakes projects. Remember those? Teams of youth canoed dock-to-dock for two summers, to bring information to lakeshore homeowners and cottagers about living with their lake and preventing water quality problems. They covered sixteen of the small lakes in the district. It was great! But now we don't need the canoe. See below for what we're going to do about it.
The canoe has been stored at a volunteer's home for lo these long years. It's a NovaCraft 16 foot fibreglas canoe, painted green. It's in great shape (the keel has been professionally repaired at both ends - see photos) and there are people who want to buy it. Just so no one is accused of any "insider deals" though, we're opening up the sale to anyone with a local address. It's an online auction, right here on cleannorth.org.
To participate, you send an email to canoe@cleannorth.org with your bid amount, name, address, phone, and email. We'll phone or email to confirm your bid, and then post the amount only, of the highest bid, here on the site (your contact info won't be posted). You have to bid at least $5 more than the current high bid for it to be accepted (current high bid is posted right under our site logo, above).
When there has been no bidding for seven days, the auction will close and the highest bidder will be notified. Only locals may bid, because we won't ship it. It's as-is, where-is. If you have some astonishing reason you can pick it up here but you live elsewhere, email with your story and we'll consider your bid.
You can see the canoe at the Clean North office, 736-A Queen Street East, whenever a volunteer is staffing the office (call first to make sure - 945-1573), which is most weekday mornings, random afternoons and evenings, and other times by appointment. Photos are below, click on any of them to see a big picture, then use your back button to come back to the story and to look at other photos. If you have questions about the canoe or about the way the auction will run (have I forgotten to mention any details?) use the comments feature here to post them and I'll get right back to you.

Canoe is sold!
There has been no bidding activity since the auction began with the opening bid. So, the opening bidder is the buyer of the canoe.by kathie on 2003-05-08 06:06:28
Thanks to Don for taking such good care of the canoe over the years.
