Please Help Carpet the Office

from the strong-backs-wanted dept.
This coming weekend is the big carpeting project. We've been suffering with a threadbare, stained carpet in the Clean North office for quite a few years now. It's literally unravelling under our feet. But Don has obtained some really sturdy hotel carpeting that is clean and really nice. We began this task in the fall and did two segments, now it's time to finish the job. Can you help? Work schedule is below. Please email Kathie to join a work crew. Thanks!
We're doing this in stages to allow for the carpet glue to dry, so we'll begin work on Wednesday evening, moving the computer equipment to a safe place and shifting some of the library resources. Thursday night we're going to attempt to put down the first piece of carpet, then Friday move things back to that area, and move other things out of the way. Saturday we begin the day with putting down carpet.
If you don't have the strong back to help with the heavy work, but want to pitch in, we could use someone to handle "care and feeding" of volunteers. Hot food is arriving for lunch Saturday, but things like bringing pop and chips, making coffee, etc. still could use a volunteer.
Work shifts:
- Wednesday 7-9 pm we still need 2-3 people
- Thursday 7-9 pm - 3 people
- Friday 7-9 pm - 5 people
- Saturday 9 am to noon - 5 people
- Saturday noon to 3 pm - 5 people
- Saturday 3 pm to 6 pm - 5 people
- Saturday 6 pm to 9 pm - 5 people
- Sunday 9 am to noon - 5 people
- Sunday noon to 3 pm - 5 people
- Sunday 3 pm to 6 pm - 5 people
Please give me your phone number when volunteering, so that just in case the work proceeds very quickly and we end up cancelling a shift (well, we can hope!), I can reach you to let you know. Also indicate whether you have any particular skills in carpet laying or in furniture moving. (Skills not required in order to volunteer, we'd just like to know for our work planning.) Thanks!
Email Kathie!
all done, and it looks great!
Saturday the main part of the carpeting was put in. Kim the carpet man who volunteered for us, cut, measured, and glued. Don's lads hauled carpet segments and glue buckets, rinsed glue knives, and generally made themselves useful. Peter finished putting backing boards on our big wooden bookshelves (might as well make some improvements while they were cleaned off).by kathie on 2003-02-25 21:37:49
Connie and Alex Gillis and Anne O'Connor brought food for the hungry workers and we had a feast while waiting for glue to get tacky.
Sunday Don brought in another energetic crew, who moved furniture back into place (carefully so as not to disturb the fresh glue). They then emptied out the walk-in storage closet and the front window, and cut carpet pieces for those spots too!
Dan came in and reconnected all the computers, and still more young men arrived in the evening to work with me on putting everything back in its place. We dusted it all, too, before putting things back, so it's nice and clean in there. The library has been reshelved (although Ashley and Andrea H. will be going through it over the next few days to make sure it's all in proper order) and all the stuff for the kitchen area, chairs, window display, etc. is back in its place. We're back in business!
Come in and admire the carpeting! It is wonderful. I am one happy environmentalist!
