Canada Blocks Labelling of GM Food

Halifax, May 10, 2002 -- Canada continued to play a leading role in denying the world its right to know what's in the food it eats at a UN meeting on labelling of genetically engineered (GE) food that wrapped up today, again failing to agree on a global standard. More, below.
Codex - established by the World Health Organization and Food & Agriculture Organization - is supposed to set global rules for GE food labelling to be used in world trade agreements. But after seven years of meetings, the world's biggest producers of genetically engineered (GE) crops continue to block progress.
"Canada, the US and Argentina are determined to force the world to eat this untested, unwanted and unneeded experiment," said Greenpeace GE campaigner Holly Penfound. "Each year that passes means more contamination of our food supply and the environment, and more control of it by companies such as Monsanto."
Together, Canada, the US and Argentina produce 96 per cent of the world's GE crops. Though mandatory labels are in place or being developed in 36 countries for GE food, the three big GE producers have been able to stall progress on harmonized global rules.
Penfound said Canada's behaviour at the meeting is particularly hypocritical since the Liberals justify their refusal to have mandatory labels on GE food in Canada by the lack of global rules.
"The situation in Canada is a farce," she said. "The Liberals say there are no global rules for mandatory labelling of GE food, so we can't have any Canadian rules. What they don't say is that they're busy stopping such global rules from coming into place."
"Loblaws says there are no Canadian or global rules, so it can't label GE food, either. But what Loblaws doesn't say is it lobbies hard in Ottawa against MPs who try to make Canadian rules," she said, referring to the defeat of a popular law last year that was supported by MPs from all parties, including 34 rebel Liberals.
Penfound said Greenpeace will continue its campaign against Loblaws, Canada's largest grocer, to put labels on its GE food.

new world disorder. Life imitates art these robocops from
uwatchably inane US crap from Hollywood are now de rigueur
at all G7 meetings. As current in Halifax.
Police in black visors dehumanised robots faceless
an analogy of the innards of the frankenfoods which the
unholy warriors the psychotic born again neocapitalists
foist upon us with the help of their coconspirators the
politicos of the new world disorder.
And facing them are women in t shirts really a threat
to those meeting behind closed doors. A sad sight. Using
tear gas and pepper spray. How appropriate fantasy robocops
applying toxic products on peaceful demonstrators who still
appear human.
Then it gets bad. The demonstrators are taken over by
anarchists in masks and protective clothing ready to rumble.
Violence begets violence.
Reason is lost. In the image of the horrors the
brain stops functioning on all 3 sides the robocops and the
toxic politicos both mere serfs of the plutocrats and gnomes,
the peaceful demonstrators and the criminally inclined
anarchists, and finally us the audience or viewers for whose
benefit these execrably sinister and antidemocratic inhuman
masques and mystery plays are enacted.
Then the final insult a report from the stock
exchange as if the ultima ratio of all news all human
activity all culture all history is money filthy lucre.
These idiots the press the plutocrats the
politicians the police will find out when they all die of
diseases as yet unknown due to policies of toxicity, GM foods
GMO new rogue life forms escaped from labs, unbreathable air
undrinkable water and inedible food.
Gold in their pockets aluminum in their brains
but we wont see if they die with a smile or a frown on their
faces as they will be covered by gasmasks.

The meeting in Halifax I missed it again what is it about.
Then I realise it doesnt matter it is about the cops and the anarchists and the teargas. Dehumanised violent. This is the
image that we need to keep in our minds when we dare question
the widom of the venial morons and brain dead illiterates
innumerates and scientific imbeciles and morally challenged
degenerates who run our societies.
At Quebec I thought most of the masked anarchists were
agent provocateurs from the Securite de Quebec or imported
agents of those intellectually brilliant winners the FBI and
CIA. These folks cant tell the cabin of a plane from a
luggage compartment.
Oh yes its about third world poverty. Finance
ministers fighting terrorism. Wow ouch I am scared.
I am reassured by the smile of the new canadian
finance minster. Why he almost splits his lips. not dour like
the others who are appropriately dour and sombre. Grin smile
wow its great to mix with the highand mighty sorry the
rich and the managers of the purse strings. Smile grin
show teeth grin smile.
